Aims and Values
At Saint Anne's we look to Jesus as our guide in praying and learning, as we strive to achieve excellence in all our God given talents. Each one of us is special as we accept and respect one another as children of God.
Religious virtues demonstrate how children can improve their living and learning as children of Christ.
At different points throughout the year there will be a focus in school on particular virtues that we will explore in lessons, liturgies and assemblies. These are:
- Grateful and Generous
- Attentive and Discerning
- Compassionate and Loving
- Faith-filled and Hopeful
- Eloquent and Truthful
- Learned and Wise
Every child has a Home/School Planner and they are expected to take it home every night and bring it to school every day. If your child has followed the school’s rules throughout the day, they will be awarded a golden stamp and you can congratulate them on having a good day at school but if they haven’t been successful, you can see the reason and speak to your child about it.
It is vital that you support your child to meet all the following requirements in order that they can achieve a golden stamp at the end of each day:
- Attend school and arrive by 8.55 am.
- Wear the correct school uniform smartly throughout the day.
- Completed any homework set and handed it in on time.
- Brought their reading book to school.
- Have the correct PE/Swimming Kit for their lesson.
- Their planner has been signed by an adult at home.
Your child must ensure that they have:
- Done their best in all lessons.
- Been respectful and well behaved throughout the day, including breakfast club, playtime and lunchtime.
At the end of each half term, the total number of golden stamps is recorded and when your child reaches the following golden totals of 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 170 stamps, they will receive a prize at the end of the half term - the prizes getting bigger and better the more stamps they collect throughout the year!
British Values are promoted through the Catholic Values at St. Anne’s.
We actively promote and model democracy at St. Anne's by:
- Ensuring that our children develop knowledge of, and respect for, public institutions and services, eg. visits to/from Police, Fire Service.
- Teaching our children how they can influence decision making through the democratic process through class voting, assemblies and activities during times of elections (local/general).
- Encouraging pupils to become involved in decision making processes and ensuring they are listened to in school, through the School Council and Pupil Voice.
Rule of Law
We actively promote and model the rule of law by:
- Ensuring school rules are clear and fair, eg. through our whole school ‘Golden Rules’.
- Helping children to distinguish right from wrong, eg. by using the example of Christ when dealing with behaviour that is not acceptable.
- Helping children to understand that living under the rule of law protects individuals, eg. through our RE curriculum and our Rights Respecting Schools Award.
- Having a behaviour policy that is linked to restorative justice, eg. that is based in the Christian value of forgiveness.
We actively promote and model individual liberty by:
- Encouraging and supporting pupils in developing their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence through our Catholic ethos.
- Encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their behaviour as well as knowing their rights and having a fair and consistent Behaviour policy.
- Challenging stereotypes with welcoming visitors into school to talk about issues such as disability awareness and anti–bullying.
Respect and Tolerance
We actively promote and model respect and tolerance by:
- Promoting respect for individual differences through our Catholic ethos and RE curriculum and also through Worship and Assemblies, multi faith week and celebrations for a range of religious festivals.
- Helping children to understand and respect their own and other cultures and ways of life, through RE and Geography.
- Discussing and celebrating the differences between people such as differences of faith, ethnicity, disability, and gender.
