National Storytelling Week - National Awareness Days Calendar 2021

To celebrate National Storytelling Week, it would be wonderful if you could share and tell a story with your family at home!

This may be one of your favourite stories, a traditional tale or one of your reading books from school.

You could read your story aloud, act out the story using props and even dress up!

If you can, it would be fantastic if you could send us a video of you telling your story ~ you can send this to Mrs Ryan by email!

These daily activities will also help you to explore National Storytelling Week ~ Writing Tasks, WB. Monday 1st February 2021

RE

On Tuesday 2nd February 2021, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as 'Candlemas' will be celebrated.

This day is celebrated 40 days after the birth of Jesus and it marks the presentation of Jesus at the Temple.  Mary and Joseph met two people called Simeon and Anna at the Temple, who were so thrilled to meet this very special baby.

Candles are blessed on this day and we will be adding new candles to our prayer areas in school.

You could create and decorate your own picture of a candle at home ~ Candle Template

There are also lots of exciting craft ideas for the celebration of Candlemas here ~ https://www.catholicicing.com/ideas-for-celebrating-candlemas-feb-2/

PE

Our PE activities this week link to, 'Children's Mental Health Week'.  See how many you can complete this week!

Monday 1st February 2021 ~

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week and sports can be a great way to express yourself.   Every sport has its own rhythm – its own movement and energy that connects you to others and to your inner self. Finding the right sport for you is about tapping into that rhythm and finding the beat that is right for you. When you express yourself through your chosen sport, you release stress, unwanted negativity and clear your head. Everyone needs to find the right sport so that they are able to do all of that.

Today’s lesson is reaction wall.
This activity will help develop children’s reactions, hand eye coordination, balance and concentration. This skill can be applied in many different sports such as football, tennis, netball, handball. All you are going to need is paper a pen and a wall.

Tuesday 2nd February 2021 ~
Sport too is an expression of freedom, where we get to be creative, which often allows us to behave from the inside out. It is a place where we can express values, beliefs, ideals and attitudes. It is a place where we get to measure our ability and be tested in ways we never imagined. By learning to express yourself through sport you gain confidence and experience which will lead to showing yourself to others. It is important to show yourself more clearly than you think. Actions do speak louder than words.

Today's Lesson
Do you know the difference between a tuck and a pike? A star and a straddle?
Today's lesson will focus on basic shapes in gymnastics. These are not just the fundamental skills needed in gymnastics they are needed in many other sports. For example when defending in netball you need a straight shape, when you are defending a goal in handball you need a star shape.  The basic shapes are straight, star, tuck, straddle and pike. The key things to remember are to engage your core, keep your head looking forwards, point your toes and use your arms for balance.

Wednesday 3rd February 2021 ~

Sport is valuable as it builds character and helps with social skills; such as teamwork, co-operation and leadership. It is also a personal skills builder where self-discipline and work ethic are huge benefits. Not always an easy lesson to learn, but a very important one, is learning to cope with disappointment, which is a part of life, and sport can prepare us for this.
It's time to go on the hunt for treasure! We don't want to spoil the game, but you'll probably find it in your living room... This activity involves a bit of maths and is great for developing motor skills.

Thursday 4th February 2021 ~
Whether you participate in a team sport or an individual sport, you will find that you have your own style. This personal style will help you identify with aspects of yourself that you enjoy, and can help you find ways of acting out and making known your thoughts and feelings. It is a way of engaging with others and finding your own cause and effect.

 Today’s lesson
Another great activity linked to jumping to help develop our balance and coordination. Grab some cushions or pillows, create yourself a pond, and have fun!

Friday 5th February 2021 ~
Orientating means turning a map around the right way. Standing at the trampoline, can you turn your map the right way around to match what you can see? What happens if we change places? Do we change or does the map change? Turn your map, orientate it the right way around.   We will be using maps, making maps and following them. Skills that will help us with problem solving, spatial awareness and teamwork.
