English

English has a vital place in education and in society. At St Anne's, we strive to deliver a high-quality English education that will teach pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others and through their reading and listening, others can communicate with them.

Our aim is to instil a lifelong love of reading and therefore pupils are provided with several opportunities to enjoy and share the magic of literature across the curriculum. Immersing our children in reading will enable them to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually.

Our school is a language-rich environment which enables pupils to access new and challenging vocabulary. We want our pupils to become confident, creative and independent writers who are able to articulate their thoughts, ideas and feelings through the written word. Our aim is that children develop transferable skills which they can use and apply across the wider curriculum and throughout their lives. In the world we live in today, it is becoming increasingly important that people have the tools and are empowered to communicate their ideas and opinions about issues that matter to them.
